Anyone else suffer this extremely reasonable childhood experience but have it scar them for life? 🥵⁣

⁣When I was younger, I wasn’t allowed to watch TV until I finished my homework. ⁣

⁣A very logical request considering I was human trash at multitasking and would end up just watching TV 🙃⁣

⁣HOWEVER, it taught me, as it teaches many, that you should not have fun or rest/relax until all of your responsibilities are taken care of. ⁣

⁣In college I was grateful for this “responsibilities first” attitude. It saved my grades on many occasions as I watched others without the same discipline suffer the consequences of prioritizing fun. ⁣

⁣Structure and organization are how I got through graduate school while working full-time and starting a business. The silent motivator all along being guilt and pressure unless all of my responsibilities were taken care of. ⁣

⁣Finally, as an adult, I’ve had to deconstruct the idea that work is more important than play ⬅️⁣

⁣Work always came first for me. Now that I create my own schedule, it's essential that I outgrow what worked for me in childhood and figured out what works for me as an adult. ⁣

⁣Observe your own patterns and trace them back to their roots. We only do the things we do because at one point they worked for us. ⁣

⁣You’re not an accident, you’re a series of habits that make up how you spend your life. ⁣

⁣Does this story sound similar to your own? Let me know below 💞⁣

Self-care is not just drinking wine in a bubble bath.⁣

⁣🧹Take care of your environment⁣

⁣🚿Take care of your physical self⁣

⁣💬Call yourself out on a bad attitude and control what you are consuming that is not benefiting your mental health⁣

⁣We have oversimplified personal care. Doing your nails while having a mental breakdown is putting a bandaid over a bullethole. ⁣

⁣You don’t need another drink, you need to literally go have a cathartic ugly-cry in the shower and then need to call someone for social support. ⁣

⁣Be honest with yourself about the maintenance that needs to be done, ESPECIALLY if you’re facing resistance. ⁣

⁣It’s not weakness to need things. I’m looking at you, perfectly self-contained people who pride themselves on being independent. ⁣

⁣If you've already had your ugly-cry, let me know so I can celebrate you 😂

I love flying because:⁣

⁣•It's a great reminder that Earth is just a beautiful rock floating in space and we happen to live here⁣

⁣•No internet for a few hours and genuine "disconnection" from everything⁣

⁣•Airplanes are the BEST place to cry. If you haven't had a good airplane breakdown, you're missing out 😂 ⁣

The question to ask yourself if you’re worried you’re “not doing enough” while working from home 👇🏼⁣

⁣When I worked from home I was constantly worried people would think I wasn’t doing enough. I was immediately available and always trying to prove that I was working 🤓⁣

⁣Without normal workloads and supervision, it’s normal to feel resting guilt when you don’t have as much on your plate. ⁣

⁣As hard as it may seem, DON’T create stories about how this equates to job insecurity or team members judging you. Let it be what it is (a slow season) and don’t overthink it.⁣

⁣The question I recommend asking yourself when you worry something is wrong:⁣

⁣“Has anyone told me something is wrong?”⁣

⁣Has anyone explicitly told you that there is a problem with the volume, speed, or quality of your work? No? Then assume nothing is wrong and that if something is wrong someone will let you know and you can address it from there. ⁣

⁣We are spending more time than usual in our heads, and we love to make up stories to justify feelings. Trust the facts. Trust that you work with adults who can communicate basic messages if they need to and that they will let you know if they need more from you. ⁣

⁣Let me know if this shift is helpful for you 💞

In my (humble) opinion, your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. ⁣

⁣These small changes will make a big difference in your physical and mental health ♥️
