Captured this image earlier this evening as a thunderstorm reached its final stages, no longer producing rain but leaving behind a stunning anvil cloud illuminated by the setting sun. As the storm weakened, upper-level winds spread the cloud top outward, creating the classic anvil shape while the sunset painted it with vibrant shades of pink and orange.
Even after a storm stops producing lightning and precipitation, it can still put on quite a show. Nature's reminder that some of the most spectacular weather happens after the storm is over.

The rest of this week is shaping up to be sweltering hot with high humidity and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90's. Sunday into early next week we go into an active pattern with a runway of tropical moisture, plus a backdoor cold front, giving us that trigger for on-and-off thunderstorms in the CSRA.

Meteorologist Alex Carter and Connor Tank discuss the drought conditions currently, the wettest months of the year, and the key ingredients needed for increased rain chances.

06/04/2026

Good Thursday afternoon! The rest of this week and into the weekend will be dry for the CSRA. Monday and Tuesday's rain chances backed off a little bit as that moisture plume in the gulf will stay to more to our west, but I still would not rule out any PM thunderstorms and showers for our Monday and Tuesday.
