Virginia Debate Academy hosted four online debate camps this summer. Over seventy students from six states, Washington, D.C, and abroad logged in to develop their critical thinking, research abilities, and public speaking and debating skills, while researching important issues, such as nuclear proliferation, health care, climate change, and more. Students represented 43 schools, including top programs like Walt Whitman High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Rachel Carson Middle School, and Nysmith School for the Gifted. We wish them all the best as they pursue more success on the state and national circuit, advance in the NSDA USA Debate Team qualification process, and take leadership positions on their respective teams.
We were pleased to offer a number of tuition discounts to families across Virginia, in accordance with our mission to provide an affordable and quality debate education to all students who seek it. VDA looks forward to working with more schools and parents this year to improve students’ access to educational opportunities, especially during COVID-19.
Check out what some parents and students had to say about their experience at VDA:
"My daughter participated in the VDA camp sessions, and it ignited a drive in her that shocked both my husband and me. She learned key skills head on, and I know her future will be brighter because of the experiences she's had and will have at VDA. I listened in on one of the sessions and was surprised at the sophistication of the content -- concepts and topics that build confidence as well as empathy and awareness around social, political, and economic challenges her generation undoubtedly will face as adults. The judges were great -- very skilled, gave age-appropriate feedback, highly engaged. I was impressed!
I highly recommend VDA as an investment in our children and a service to our community!"
- Proud Middle School Parent
"VDA private coaching has helped me become a clearer and more effective speaker. Their personalized feedback on my speeches, rebuttals and cases has allowed me to gain immense success across the national and local circuit."
