The Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics program of study is among the many opportunities available to NCSD high school students to earn free college credits through concurrent enrollment. (Often referred to as BOCES classes.) Through concurrent enrollment, students can take college-level courses and earn both college and high school credit at their home school or the Pathways Innovation Center. These programs provide students with significant opportunities to take advanced coursework and get a jumpstart on college requirements and earning credit. Additionally, by taking advanced college courses, students gain valuable skills and resources that support their transition to college and build confidence in their ability to succeed. Pathways Innovation Center's Annual Pet Day offers Veterinary Science students an exciting opportunity to demonstrate and highlight their professional veterinary skills.

Wendy Po***ck, the Ag & Vet Science teacher at PIC, started this clinical practice day nine years ago to provide students with hands-on experience working with live animals in a classroom setting. Students bring a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, sheep, guinea pigs, and rabbits, allowing them to practice examining different types of animals. By integrating their knowledge of anatomy and physiology, nutrition, animal behavior, the ethics of animal care and animal husbandry, and much more, these students expertly illustrated what they are learning throughout the program.

Students took a minute out of their practice to share with us their reflections on the experience:

"It is really beneficial to be around animals and see how they actually act. It is also really good hands-on experience on how to handle and properly care for animals." ~ Morgan

"It is really nice to hear an active heartbeat and to see an active respiratory rate. There are just a lot of good benefits, especially if you actually do want to go into Vet Science, Pet Day helps you out quite a bit." ~ Hadly

"Pet Day helps people understand different animals and how different animals look healthy. It is great for people to be around the animals and get more experience with them." ~ Maddie
