Big day for Tito this Friday!
Tito is scheduled for his PennHIP evaluation and preliminary OFA hip this Friday.
Many people ask what the difference is between PennHIP and OFA, so here’s a quick explanation:
🔹 PennHIP measures hip laxity (how loose or tight the hip joints are) and helps predict the future risk of hip dysplasia. It provides a numerical score called a Distraction Index (DI) and can be performed as early as 16 weeks of age.
🔹 OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) evaluates the structure and conformation of the hips and elbows through radiographs reviewed by veterinary specialists. Preliminary evaluations can be done before age 2, with final certifications issued at 24 months or older.
As breeders, health testing is one of the most important investments we can make in our dogs and future generations. While no test can guarantee perfection, these evaluations provide valuable information that helps us make responsible breeding decisions and continue improving the health of our program.
We’re excited to see how our goofy, handsome boy does and will be sure to share his results when they come in!
