I visited Ornamental Beads in Colorado and came across this showstopper.
The original owners were basically Indiana Jones types β traveling the world, collecting beads and artifacts from everywhere they went. The current owners, Matt and Robin, inherited a lot of that history.
So where exactly this came from, who made it, or what it was used for⦠a bit of a mystery.
But the workmanship is wild. Every inch is covered in beadwork β faces, patterns, detail on top of detail. The kind of piece you keep staring at and noticing more each time.
It appears to be Yoruba in style, which makes it even more interesting β in that culture, beads carried meaning, status, identity. This is storytelling, not upholstery.
If you have knowledge of historical African beadwork β what do you think this might be? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Pretty amazing.
