Have you begun to make plans for your garden? February is a very busy gardening month for me! It is the perfect time to get seeds growing indoors, try this (mostly hands off) winter sowing method, and order any seeds and supplies you are going to need this year!

This was my first round of winter sown seeds in milk jugs. I saw great results with these last year! I placed them on the outside of the south facing wall of my sunroom and watered when it got warm. It's IMPERATIVE to keep an eye on these on sunny days to ensure the soil doesn't dry out. Seeds need to be consistently moist to sprout.

The only downside to these, is having to open and close them up each night (once I saw sprouts I started opening them up so they wouldn't cook inside the milk jugs on warm sunny days and closing them up before dark to keep them warm enough) so this year I am trying this winter sowing method directly in the beds! I'm hoping this will make it a little easier when they do start actively growing!
