Had such a great time last night and Sierra Ferrel. Always fun to get a fun summer concert in during our crazy Market season. One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while!

We’re Winners!

Our Bread N' Butter Pickles made with maple syrup just brought home a 2026 Good Food Award in the pickles category! 🏆

The Good Food Awards celebrate products that pair exceptional taste and quality with conscious craftsmanship. Chosen from a blind tasting of more than 1,200 entries, this year’s winners represent some of the most exciting products and brands in the good food space.

Bread and butter pickles have always been a part of our line up of vinegar based pickled vegetables. When we started as Healthy by Design we had 5 vegetable products - Half Sour Pickles, Garlic Dill Pickles, Bread N' Butter Pickles, Blueberry Lemon Lavender Jam, and Triple Berry Jam. Our Bread N' Butter Pickles have evolved over time. Many of our customers have voiced concerns over the amount of sugar in the average jar they find at the grocery store. We have always used about 1/2 the sugar of a traditional recipe with the goal always being to switch to a sugar alternative sweetener. I messed around with the recipe for years. I used honey first, but the honey flavor wasn’t right with the spices. I tried monk fruit, stevia, and even xylitol. Finally, the winner was maple syrup. While there is still technically added sugar, the amount was significantly reduced to about 1/3 the amount per serving of a traditional bread and butter. Maple syrup also has a lower glycemic index (54I) when compared to cane sugar (65I). This means maple syrup causes lower rises in your blood sugar.

We also decided to change the onions from sweet onions to red onions for a more unique onion flavor. We get comments all of the time during sampling that they don’t normally like bread n butter pickles, but they like ours. Come out this weekend and try one for yourself. See how mixing up the sweeteners can totally change a popular classic.

Thanks for being part of our journey! We’re so excited to celebrate this win with our community.
