MUHAMMAD ALI

A person that revolutionized their soul through physical exellence and sacrifice, shook pro-war America to its core, aided in changing US societies for the better, and then capped it off by leaving behind a strongly built-up legacy that truly makes him the greatest athlete to ever live.

While we extend a warm congratulations to all Muslims on the coming of Ramadan, we feel especially inspired by Muhammad's upholding of the principles of Islam in the face of American Islamophobia throughout his life. His legacy provides American Muslims much needed confidence in their identity going forward in life, and for that we are extremely grateful. His relentlessness to do good only furthers our own.

But Muhammad Ali will not only be remembered as a legend for his greatness in the boxing ring and his strong anti-war and anti-white supremacy stances, he will also be remembered for his strong public stances in support of the Palestinian people.

On a visit to two Palestinian refugee camps in southern Lebanon in the 1970's, the former heavy-weight boxing champion was quoted by a Palestinian guerrilla news agency as saying: “In my name and the name of all Muslims in America, I declare support for the Palestinian struggle to liberate their homeland and oust the Zionist invaders.”

He never shied away from the issue here in the US also. This picture is from the Muhammad Ali Handbook. It is the champ at a 1988 Chicago rally for Palestinian human rights. Don't let anyone whitewash this legacy. It's too precious.
