For 10 years, Sahil Sethy tilted his head every time he tried to read. His teachers noticed. His parents noticed. But without access to affordable care, there was nothing anyone could do. Sahil had never had an eye exam.
When GoodVision ran a free school screening at his school in Bhubaneswar, India, that changed. The team found cataracts in his left eye from an accident years earlier. He was referred for surgery within days.
Today, Sahil reads from the blackboard without effort. He attends a free vision school where his brain is relearning how to use both eyes together. His teachers say he seems more relaxed, more engaged, and more like himself.
The World Health Organization (WHO) featured Sahil's story as part of its Vision and Eye Care Programme. It's the second time the WHO has highlighted GoodVision's work, and we couldn't be prouder of the team in India.
