"Eerie photographs recovered from the 1857 wreck of the SS Central America are now being published for the first time."

Our studio worked with several of the daguerreotypes and ambrotypes from the SS Central America shipwreck (1857). Check out this recent article in the Guardian for more information on some of the treasures that were discovered on the ocean floor!

Meet Emily Finney, our Fall 2021 graduate student intern! Emily is currently in her final semester in Preservation Studies at Boston University. Today is her last day in the studio, three months have flown by very fast!

Emily’s internship with us provided her hands-on experience with early photographic processes, an interest she wanted to explore more of. While here in the studio, Emily has worked on different storage techniques for specific types of fragile photographic objects, such as ambrotypes, daguerreotypes, and tintypes. She also created a housing sample set using her own collection of photographs. Swipe through to see some examples!

Videos of Emily‘s work can be seen on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CXCWnVFFKOj/?utm_medium=copy_link
