🩺Healthcare workers should know they aren’t alone and healing comes with putting a name to what they are feeling. ⁣
⁣
𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐑𝐘 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐓. ⁣

⚡️𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 we talk about what do we FEEL when we are suffering from moral injury⁣
⚡️𝗪𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 we talk TREATMENT/COPING with moral injury⁣
⚡️𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 we talk what you can do for OTHERS suffering from moral injury ⁣
⁣
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭!? ⁣
🩺Moral injury may occur due to a traumatic event in which deeply held morals or values are violated. This resulting distress may lead to PTSD, depression, and other disorders in which feelings such as guilt, shame, betrayal and anger may be present⁣
⁣
🩺Think about the times where you have thought about who to treat first, struggled with insurance coverage, what resources to use/not use, choose between caring for infectious patients and worrying about keeping your families safe, patients dying without loved ones present. This list goes on.⁣
⁣
𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧:⁣
🔹You have to make decisions that affect the survival of others or where all options will lead to a negative outcome⁣
🔹Doing something that goes against your beliefs ⁣
🔹Failing to do something in line with your beliefs⁣
🔹Witnessing or learning about such an act⁣
🔹Experiencing betrayal by trusted others⁣
⁣
Moral injury is the lasting psychological, spiritual, behavioral or social impact that may result from these experiences.⁣
⁣

Here are 3 things you can do right now to feel more confident!⚡️

1️⃣ Strike a power pose! You heard me right! Either where you are or if you are worried what Karen will think do it next time you go to the bathroom! Firm stance, feet apart, hands on hips and head held high! Think superwoman! 🦸🏻‍♀️

2️⃣ Think of 3 things you have done really well lately! Celebrate those wins! You are always doing better than you think! ⁣

3️⃣ Say a positive affirmation/mantra to yourself! Examples:⁣
⚡️I choose positive thoughts⁣
⚡️I am in control of my actions.⁣
⚡️I can do hard things⁣
⚡️I have survived 100% of my bad days. I am Resilient.⁣
⚡️Small steps build my confidence. I’ll take a small step toward one of my goals today⁣
⚡️I don’t have to be perfect to be confident. I am enough.⁣

You don’t have to do anything you don’t wanna do! If you are feeling stuck or unhappy YOU 👏🏼HAVE 👏🏼OPTIONS👏🏼! ⁣

🔥𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝟏: You have to work at the bedside for X amount of time⁣
𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇: if you like the bedside COOL. If you don’t, that’s cool too. DO what you like not what you THINK you should be doing. We have SO many options and you are an incredible nurse making a difference even if you work in a “non traditional” role!⁣

🔥𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝟐: You have to stay in a toxic job that is causing you significant mental distress for X years⁣
𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇: no job is worth sacrificing your mental health. You do not need to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm. Its ok to think about the life you want and choose a job based on that rather than squeezing in life around your job. ⁣

🔥𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝟑: Non bedside roles make you less of a nurse⁣
𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇: Nope! You are making a difference each and every day. Everyone has a difference place, role, speciality, level of expertise and we are all essential. Even if your job is less technically difficult or less complex than another job it doesn’t make it any less important! ⁣

🔥𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝟒: They won’t hire me I don’t have experience in…⁣
𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇: They won’t hire you if you don’t apply. You never know until you put yourself out there. Don’t be paralyzed by the hypotheticals or by fear of failure. Failure is just feedback⁣

🤔 Ok for real…what does this even mean? Maybe it’s….⤵️

💜Leaving work at work so that you can truly REST?
💜Having clarity on what makes you happy? What brings you joy? Who you are as a HUMAN outside of nursing?
💜Having energy after your shift is over to do those things and Netflix isn’t the default?
💜Having more confidence both in and out of work? And rewriting all the false stories you are telling yourself that hold you back?
💜Having clear routines and habits that support your health physically and mentally? That you stick to?
💜Knowing how to set boundaries with work, your social group and maybe even yourself?
💜Knowing how to self advocate? Stand up for yourself?
💜Navigating toxicity at work and knowing when enough is enough?
💜Knowing your values and how to act in alignment with them?
💜Knowing what burnout looks like and feels like so that you can act before it consumes you?

Yup and I’VE GOT YOU 🙌🏼
