Greta & The Serpent

Many artists painted or created art about (St.) Margaret and the Serpent/Dragon/Snake based on an old myth of Margaret who would rather die and go to Christ than be wife of a lord. (However the stories vary enormously.) I was struck by Rafael's painting when visiting the Lourve in '23. I came home to paint a Margaret/Greta - though much more engaged and a serpent much larger - since he swallowed her, after all. (Somehow she got out.) Mostly she is seen placidly holding a cross with a measley serpent at her ankles.
