Kelly held the rank of Deputy Sheriff for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office for 15 years prior to retiring in 2012. During her tenure at the department, Kelly worked in Patrol, Community Policing, as a Field Training Officer (FTO), and as a School Resource Officer (SRO). Kelly also assisted the Narcotics and Vice divisions with special details during her career. Kelly is currently certified as an instructor for the American Red Cross and the American Safety Health Institute (ASHI).
