Today marks 4 years of continuous sobriety for me. I’m proud of it. I don’t talk about it a lot on here. Most of my friends know. I don’t wear it as a badge. I just make the conscious choice every day not to drink. Sometimes I feel like a fraud or like my story doesn’t matter. I have a hard time telling people I’m in recovery. The people I know and love who are in recovery have way tougher stories than mine. But now I realize that my story is just as helpful as anyone’s.

I never had an intervention. As far as I know, no one was concerned with my drinking. I did no step work. I just realized that I was depressed. Very depressed. And alcohol made it go away for a while. It made the voices in my mind quiet down. The issue was, it came back 3-fold when I sobered up. So I would drink more.

I wanted a clear head. I wanted to see if I could get rid of the voices on my own. I couldn’t. I needed God. And man did he put people around me. Some great people.
