The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously advanced the πππ¦ππ¬ π. ππ¨π¨ππ¬ πππ, a bipartisan legislative package designed to strengthen protections for children against online exploitation and s*xtortion. The legislation is named in memory of James T. Woods, a teenager who tragically lost his life after becoming a victim of online s*xtortion.
If passed into law, the legislation would:
β
Create federal crimes specifically targeting child s*xtortion and the online coercion of children into self-harm or violence.
β
Modernize outdated sentencing guidelines for offenders involved in child s*xual abuse material (CSAM).
β
Give law enforcement stronger tools to investigate and prosecute violent online criminal networks that prey on children, including groups that manipulate young people into dangerous and life-threatening acts. (Senate Judiciaryβ οΏΌ)
Technology has changed the way predators target children, and our laws must evolve to meet these emerging threats. While no legislation can prevent every tragedy, stronger legal tools can help hold offenders accountable and better protect children and families.
At Child Trafficking Solutions Project, we remain committed to educating parents, caregivers, educators, and communities about the growing dangers children face online. Prevention begins with awareness, open conversations, and knowing the warning signs.
