Planut
Planut provides 10 simple promises that students can make to help the planet. Every time they keep one of those promises as evidenced by taking action and recording results they will earn credits. When students reach a certain number of credits they will achieve Planut status. Find us online at www.planut.org. We also have a Facebook application located at http://apps.facebook.com/planutfb.

Planut volunteered today for a great project called the Green Schools certification program (think Green Business program, but for schools) lead by Deborah Moore and Susan Silber. First graders from the Rosa Parks Elementary School here in Berkeley were encouraged to put their auditor caps on and evaluate their own classrooms for energy efficiency.

During a recent trip home to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Planut got acquainted with a natural resources specialty school called Trees For Tomorrow. Nestled away in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Trees For Tomorrow has been offering environmental education to students, teachers, adults, seniors, and others since 1944.
You really have to see their school with your own eyes just to appreciate the awesome commitment they're making to teaching students about conservation values and contemporary resource management. They have their own campus which over 5,000 people attend annually for 3-day workshops throughout the year.
If you're a school or classroom and you're looking for the ultimate environmental educational experience, check out their website and contact Maggie Bishop for more info ([email protected]). After a visit to Eagle River, WI, it's not hard to see why TFT attracts people from all over the country and why the impressions they leave with their attendees last a lifetime.

The best part of the green festival in San Francisco is... the people. Like Lara from Palo Alto, who reserved the 10th "like" spot on our FB page, whose grandson was born on 10/10/10 - a very special day for Planut too. Since connecting Planut with Berkleyians on 10-10-10 we've gotten 25 people per week to start tracking their resource consumption with us. Yeah, those aren't whopping numbers but 9 years ago, the Green Festival wasn't exactly the nutty party it is today either.
Here's to Michael from Alliance for Climate Education (www.acespace.org), Earth Friends (www.theearthfriends.com), Carmen from New Learning Culture (www.newlearningculture.com), Bridget from Trash-Mash-Up (www.trashmashup.org), Kim from Sungevity (www.sungevity.com), Garth from Mt. Diablo Nursery & Garden (mtdiablonursery.com), John and Aliza from Classic Green Designs (www.classicgreendesigns.com) and Ian from Cal-Earth (http://calearth.org) for helping to make Green Festival the premiere sustainability event in America.

Gather restaurant added a delightful flavor to the East Bay Green Drinks networking event tonight at the Brower Center. After 3 experiences now with Gather, it's safe to say Planut has a favorite restaurant in Berkeley. Thanks to the Sustainable Business Alliance (SBA), as usual, for giving people with a passion for the green economy a place to connect.
gather restaurant - home Gather is a restaurant, café and organic bar with an outdoor patio in Downtown Berkeley. Walk-ins welcome. Reservations available: 510-809-0400.

Planut wraps up an awesome workshop series tonight called "Climate Action" at the Ecology Center on San Pablo. If you've never checked out their website, the Ecology Center pretty much does it all and has it all when it comes to sustainable living. They're an amazing resource. Oh, and the new super cool curbside recycling bins that rolled out last week? Yup, those were the work of the Ecology Center too. They've been going nuts for the planet since 1969 - before Planut was even a twinkle in Mother Oak's eyes!
Ecology Center The Ecology Center promotes environmentally and socially responsible practices through programs that educate, demonstrate, and provide direct services.
Planut is heading to the Berkeley Youth Alternatives event, "Farm, Film & Flava," for an inspirational evening.
