A rich man from Nyasaland who went to America and never returned

In 1930, there lived a man in Northern Mwanza now known as Neno District in Malawi 🇲🇼. His name was Mpagaja. He was a very pompous as he was the only man in the village to be partially educated. His dream was to visit outside Africa but he had no money. He thought of tricking the village especially cotton farmers so that they would fund his trip to Brazil.He really used his dubious intelligence to convince his rural community to sponsor his trip to Brazil. The village funded the journey with the hope that he would learn the ways of "the white man" and return to develop their community.However, Mpagaja had his own plans. Instead of learning or bringing back development, he ended up squandering the community's money on a lavish, wild, and chaotic lifestyle in Brazillian white women. Left completely stranded and broke in a foreign country, he ultimately had to find a way to return home, facing the disappointed villagers waiting for him to tell the truth. From that time until now, Mpagaja never returned and Neno District is still one of the underdeveloped part of Malawi, with poor road networks, hunger all year round, no decent houses, schools and hospitals.
