Oracle Porpoise

One year on, flaws and all, for you, Gin Fizz.
The original tagline. This record was written from September 18-20 of 2019 after a really trying situation that forever changed me. It was a tough write and it’s not exactly an easy listen. A living requiem for a person I care deeply about. An elegy of a tumultuous moment in time for all whom were involved. I was terrified of this EP which is why it took me an entire year to muster up the courage to release it after being pushed heavily by a number of my closest friends who watched it come together in real time. I hadn’t listened to it since it came out originally on September 18 of 2020 under the moniker Jage. It was much too agonizing for me to do so. But recently I felt as though I wanted to re-release under Oracle Porpoise. It matters enough to me for me to do so. To go back and use far nicer mics to re-record the Panasonic dictation machine that I recorded directly to. Give it a little more processing as to try to mimic what it sounds like in a room… but that is seemingly impossible which is apt given the situation that brought about this EP. It’s a different animal in person for whatever reason. It’s truly the only way to listen to it. I tried to maintain the original integrity and emotion that it exudes. I wanted it to be minimal. Nothing could be sacrificed. I refuse. Innumerable times I was told to re-record it digitally and clean it up but it just wasn’t right. It was to be this and I knew it to be true. True to the situation at the time. True to me. I gave it a first round “mix” and with the help of my great friend Ryan Adams and his mastering prowess, he and I came damn close to recreating how one hears it in person. We work well together. This re-mix and remaster has been a long time coming (months in the making) and he can attest. It just took me a minute to truly find the wherewithal to do it.
This was my first headlong engagement into gapless playback as well as the more macilent form of writing that has grown to dominate modern Oracle Porpoise releases. Endling is rife with it and even more so LP5 (which is in the works). If it weren’t for this, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Gin Fizz is more about the experience than the songs themselves. Trying to encapsulate an indescribable and dialectical feeling. This EP is arguably my favorite work even to this day. I implore you to give it a listen and share it around. It would mean more than the world to me. Should you wish to hear it in person, shoot me a text/DM and you may come over to do so. You’ll see what I mean.
Upon another listen all these years later I immediately thought of a lyric that I’ve long loved from an artist I’ve idolized for years. It comes from the mind of Jose Gonzalez. The entire song really stuck with me from first listen and it remains applicable to my life in its entirety. Open Book off of the album Vestiges & Claws (2015). The closing line. “But the memories remain yet the scars don’t feel the same. Filling pages one by one in the warmth of other suns.”
Thanks for listening.

P.S. CD baby is a pile of ass thus I am unable to re-release this on streaming as of now. They told me that if I were to release it I’d get flagged for copyright infringement… on myself. This, for the time being, is a Bandcamp exclusive release. Should you wish to pay the 2 dollars, you'll get the original mix/master as well. They are hidden as bonus tracks.

I’ve been told to post this from my story 3 times. Here it is.

Been a long while since I’ve posted here. Truth be told I seldom use Facebook and thus I sort of forgot about this page. Anyhow, I’m going to be posting here far more regularly from henceforth. If you want to catch up on what’s been missed feel free to head over to on instagram. I released a record called Endling going on a year ago now. In some regards it is a departure from my previous records but it also acts as an extension of a sound that had been building since the beginning of this project in late 2015. The link is below. I implore you to give it a listen and share it around for I am unbelievably proud of it. Much love and as always, thanks for listening.
