today the texas governor ended our mask mandate and opened up facilities to 100%. i am honestly so mad i could cry. i am mad for my colleagues, my family, my friends, and anyone who has lost someone to Covid. my heart hurts tonight as we get ready to go back deeper into our bubble unnecessarily. we were on the road to recovery, to somewhat of normalcy. and you governor, just slapped us in the face. tell me you hate healthcare workers and science without telling me you hate healthcare workers and science.

Today, alongside a nurse I grew up with at the bedside, I found joy and hope as we administered vaccines to the Austin community. Each patient we touched, was ready. Was relieved. Was tired.
Yet despite it all, no one closed their eyes or looked away, even those that were afraid. We’ve all been changed. We’ve all lost something. Maybe family. Maybe friends. Maybe a career, time, space.
But I think for a lot of us- sitting in this chair was our moment. Our moment to stare down our grief- to come out of our darkness and raise light, knowing we were braver than when we started.
What I saw today was a beautifully broken community find the courage to slowly put the pieces back together. To trust science and medicine. To trust each other and begin again. I am forever grateful to this 0.5ml of resilience. And forever grateful for those who carried us here 💛
