We’ve been a little quiet on here lately (busy time finishing up school while supporting families in Austin & DFW) but promise to be more present in 2026!
Boy oh boy was 2025 a BLAST! I met with so many providers, families, and organizations that inspired growth and collaboration far beyond what we could’ve hoped for or imagined.
Between meeting absolute heroes (Dr. Jon Bailey), to starting a podcast (CRAZY!!!), to expanding Shine to a different city, this year has been way cool!
Looking ahead, I’m so excited for the guests I have planned for the podcast, the organizations I’ve built partnerships with, and continued learning and growth from role models in the field, mentors, and families.
Wishing you all a safe, happy, and healthy 2026 🤍

Behavior isn’t a problem to solve—it’s a message to listen to.
When we pause, get curious, and try to understand why the behavior is showing up, we learn what is needed: support, connection, predictability, regulation, or space. Once we understand, we can respond in a way that actually helps them grow.
Progress begins with curiosity, not correction.

Advocacy is one of the most important skills we can nurture because it allows individuals to understand their needs, express them confidently, and move through the world in ways that honor who they are.
I still remember one of my very first sessions a few years ago. During a game, a client looked at me and said, “I just need some space right now.”
At the time, my instinct was to jump in and offer calming strategies or redirection, but then I realized something powerful: they already knew exactly what they needed.
That moment stuck with me. They recognized their feelings, communicated their needs, and advocated for themselves all on their own.
Every “I need space,” “That’s too loud,” or “I’m not ready yet” is advocacy in action, and those moments deserve to be celebrated. 💛

Imagine trying to do your taxes while stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic at 5 o’clock rush hour—overwhelming, right? That’s what it can feel like for our loved ones when we place expectations before they’re regulated. Just like we need calm, supportive environments to focus and succeed, our kids need regulation first. When we prioritize connection and support before demands, we’re setting them up for success instead of frustration. Regulation before expectation makes all the difference.
