“Racial Disparities in Victim Compensation Program Claim Approvals for Adult Survivors of Sexual Assault.”
Analyzing 42,902 claims across 18 states (2015–2023), researchers found that Black and Indigenous women’s compensation claims were significantly less likely to be approved than White women’s — even after adjusting for age, state, and year.
The most common denial reasons were lack of evidence of a crime and incomplete applications.
Administrative paperwork burdens and institutional processes appear to drive disparities in access to compensation.

When abortion is banned, the consequences ripple far beyond abortion itself.
Texans with medically complex pregnancies shared how unclear communication, fragmented care, and emotional isolation due to the bans shaped their health journeys.

New Research Brief
Access to contraception doesn’t only depend on policy — it also depends on whether people can actually find it at their local pharmacy.
A new brief from Resound Research for Reproductive Health examines availability, accessibility, and affordability of emergency contraception and over-the-counter hormonal contraception (Opill®) in Texas pharmacies.
By visiting 192 pharmacies throughout the state, researchers assessed whether these methods were available for purchase, accessible on the shelf, and affordable for Texans who may face barriers to clinic-based care or not have health insurance.
Over-the-counter contraception has the potential to expand access — but only if people can actually find it when they need it.
Our findings highlight how pharmacy availability and product accessibility can shape real-world access to contraception.

March 10 is Abortion Provider Appreciation Day.
First observed in 1996, the day honors the life and work of Dr. David Gunn and recognizes the courageous, compassionate clinicians and staff who provide abortion care.
Research consistently shows that provider availability directly affects access to care — influencing travel distance, wait times, and continuity of services, especially in restrictive policy environments.
Today, we acknowledge the essential role abortion providers play in delivering evidence-based, time-sensitive health care.

This Women’s History Month, we recognize the contributions of women and gender-diverse researchers whose work continues to advance reproductive health knowledge and policy in the United States.
From abortion access and maternal health disparities to reproductive justice and contraception policy, our research informs evidence-based decision-making in complex and evolving policy environments.
At Resound Research for Reproductive Health, we believe that strong public health policy depends on rigorous research, transparent data, and the leadership of scholars dedicated to improving health outcomes.
Evidence-driven research remains essential to advancing reproductive health policy.

New publication in the American Journal of Public Health:
"Post-Dobbs Realities: Ethical Imperatives for Data Transparency and Trust in Maternal Health Care.”
This piece examines how delays and restrictions in maternal mortality data reporting — particularly in Texas — raise urgent ethical and public health concerns.
Maternal Mortality Review Committees play a critical role in evaluating pregnancy-related deaths and informing prevention strategies. When data are delayed or withheld, it undermines transparency, accountability, and equity.

New in Health Affairs Forefront.
Elizabeth Tobin-Tyler (Brown University), Resound Research for Reproductive Health’s Kari White and colleagues examine claims that telehealth access to medication abortion increases reproductive coercion.
The evidence tells a different story.
Research shows that restricting abortion access is associated with higher rates of intimate partner violence — and that survivors often rely on confidential telehealth care as a critical safety option.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we pause to reflect on how history, systems, and healthcare intersect today.
In Texas, Black women experience pregnancy-related deaths at more than twice the rate of white women. This gap persists across income and education levels—pointing to systemic barriers in maternal healthcare, not individual choices.
Honoring Black history also means recognizing where inequities remain and committing to evidence-based solutions.
Research is not the end of the work—but it is part of how change begins.

Love shows up in many ways.
At Resound, we believe research is one of them.
We study how laws shape access to reproductive care—and how access (or lack of it) affects health, relationships, and futures.
When healthcare care is grounded in respect, autonomy, equity, and evidence—that’s our kind of love in action.

After Texas banned abortion at 6 weeks, the drop in care was steepest for the youngest Texans.
New research shows a 60% decrease in facility-based abortion care among Texans under 18. That’s nearly double the drop seen among those 25 and older.
Compared with pregnant Texans 25+, minors and young adults (18–24) were less likely to access care after the ban—likely due to social, financial, and logistical barriers that hit young people hardest.

At Resound Research, we study how reproductive health policies affect people and places, in Texas and beyond.
Our research tracks shifting laws, healthcare access, and the real-world impact of abortion bans and contraceptive barriers.
