Life is short. Just two generations removed from his grandmother's struggles in the cotton fields during the Great Depression, he wields her legacy of resilience and grit as he works for the bett
erment of the future of the Lone Star State. With more than 30 years of public- and private-sector expertise in operations, logistics, and communications, he has steered numerous state agencies through complex challenges, leaving a trail of impactful initiatives and collaborative successes. His blueprint for leadership draws inspiration from his blue-collar, Air Force veteran father's work ethic, his bank teller mother's financial acumen and common-sense approach, and the service exemplified by his two veteran grandfathers. In every policy crafted, every project managed, he honors the past while helping to craft a brighter future for Texans, proving that leadership blossoms far beyond the cotton rows. As a Senator's communication director, he navigated the complexities of constituent needs and legislative strategy. A natural spokesperson, he crafted impactful messages that resonated with constituents and media alike. This talent for communication blossomed in the private sector, where Mr. Fortner helped companies harness the power of social media and marketing to reach their audiences. He ran his own consulting firm, advising businesses on customer outreach and crafting successful campaigns for everything from political candidates to real estate associations. His passion for advocacy led him back to public service, landing him a critical role in a health and human services agency. He penned high-level analyses, coordinated community outreach, and supported executive management, wielding his expertise to ensure impactful policy and efficient operations. Throughout his career, he has navigated the halls of both government and private enterprise, leaving a trail of success in his wake. He led the transformation of a veterans' land board's marketing strategy, doubling sales and outreach. As Executive Director of the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, he steered the organization out of a crisis of weak leadership through complex policy issues, testifying before legislators and forging strong relationships with stakeholders. He also was the architect of the legislative strategy that led to the creation of the nation's first Chiropractic Director role at a state regulatory agency. Whether building bridges in Texas government, crafting winning political campaigns, or advising businesses on how to connect with their customers, Mr. Fortner's story is one of unwavering dedication, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the power of communication. He leads by example and thrives in the dynamic spaces where policy meets advocacy, and his legacy is one of impactful change woven from the threads of his diverse and extraordinary career.
