“In celebration of , it’s easy for me to just post a rainbow GIF and greeting and call it a day. Instead, I want to tell you a bit about the person who helped raise me and my sisters - our extended family member Fenina or “Dada”. (Pictured in red)

Ate (big sister) Dada didn’t make it past 2nd grade because he refused to wear the girls school uniform, which consisted of a skirt. He has been with our family since our childhoods and has helped care for our own kids and elderly parents when we’re home. Today he is happily living life in the Philippines with a small business, an amazing circle of friends and family and his long term partner, who he shares an adopted son with.

Ate Dada is an example of what it means when our members of the LGTBQIA+ community are accepted, celebrated, allowed to live their lives on their own terms, free from shame and ridicule and are loved and supported by their loved ones.
