I love Facebook Marketplace—I’ve sold a ton of stuff on there. But I’ve also had some wild experiences, and this one still makes me laugh.

I had two Christmas tree topper stars listed: one about 9.5" tall and the other over 12". Both were priced at $5. I asked for cash in the listing and again when scheduling pickup.

A young woman who lived nearby came over to look at them. She chose the smaller one because her tree was only about four feet tall. She told me she was hosting a Christmas party that night and was thrilled to have found the perfect star. She didn’t have cash on her, so I told her to just drop the $5 in my mailbox next time she drove by.

The next day, I got a message from her saying she’d dropped the STAR in my mailbox…because it was ā€œtoo smallā€ for her tree. šŸ˜‚

Ebay question.

I listed 6 items over the last few days, I'm a small fry, and not one view. Is promoting the way to go? Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

Marketplace question; Do you take returns?

I've offer to buy back kids Ice skates and jackets if the Mom is worried about fit.

This week I bought back a VW Passat key fob, the young man didn't do his research and it wasn't compatible with his Passat. I'm good with it.

How about you? Would you buy back a Marketplace sale?

I promised to share the ugly side of buying storage units, and honestly, I’m surprised these stories aren’t talked about more.

In my experience, staff always walk you to the unit, remove the lock, and open it for you. That part is normal.

I put my own lock on while the attendant and I were talking about how the unit was packed floor to ceiling—stuff piled all the way to the rafters in a 5x5 space. Mid-sentence, the attendant/manager suddenly stopped, looked at my lock, and said, ā€œThat’s the type of lock we use.ā€ It felt weird… but okay.

I took one load home. When I came back for a second load, there were two cars parked right next to my unit—a white truck and a white Mercedes. A man and a woman were standing there, staring at me as I pulled in. Weird again… but okay.

I went to the unit to grab another load, and that’s when my stomach dropped.
My lock was unlocked.

Completely stunned, I loaded my car anyway. By sheer luck, I found another lock with keys inside the unit, so I swapped it out and locked it back up. Then I went straight to the office and told the manager what happened. I also told him I had tag numbers on my car camera.

He had zero interest in the footage. Instead, he handed me back my $100 cash deposit and told me not to worry about cleaning the unit when I was done.

That’s when I knew.

Looking back, that earlier comment about my lock wasn’t random. When he interrupted himself to point out that my lock was the same kind they use, it clicked—meaning they likely had every variation of the key.

Out of the three units I’ve purchased, two had attempted theft.

Marketplace says these are counterfeit, a week after listed. Why?
