Declaring EMS an essential service means ensuring every community has timely, reliable emergency medical care — not by chance, but by design. 🚑

Voters make EMS essential service in another Iowa County. Webster County voters approved the measure by 83% (3,447 yes votes & 676 no). The measure required 60 percent to pass.

The voters approved a dedicated tax of 75-cents per $1,000 of taxable property value that will fund EMS annually throughout the county. The EMS committee, through working with the County Auditor’s office, estimated that the tax will create $1.6 million for EMS in the county.

In 2021, Iowa passed a bill allowing 99 counties to individually vote for EMS to be an essential service and create a funding mechanism.
