Lettering by Karen
Wanna know how I make my favorite block letter E? You’re going to have to change trains… but just for a very short time.
So many of you asked for a block letter tutorial, so instead of making a crazy fast video over here where no one knows what’s going on, I made a semi-fast video over on YouTube. It still moves fairly quickly, but I’m talking you through each and every step. For the most part. I’m not gonna hold your hand for this. (I hate holding hands. They’re all sweaty and clammy and…)
I go through the absolute basic steps of a block letter first. And then we get funky (my favorite part of block letters) and I show you how to manipulate them to make different alphabets. 1.5 minutes of basics. 5 minutes of funky. And then BAM, you’re stealing my job because you’re a block letter pro.
I’ll see ya over on YouTube. 👋👋
p.s. bring a marker! And some paper!

Buckle in, it’s story time.
Once upon a time, when I was a much younger Karen with sidewalk chalk… my sister and I decided that it would be a good idea to decorate the driveway for a yard sale we were having. What’s the perfect decor for a yard sale according to two young girls? Obviously dollar signs. OBVIOUSLY. In many colors. And many sizes. Just completely filling up the driveway.
Yep. It happened. And then we were awarded “tackiest yard sale decor” that year and the trophy still sits on my mom’s mantel. Nah, I’m kidding about that very last past. But I dare you to find a worse setting for a yard sale. (Sorry, Mom.)
That being said… if you ever find yourself wanting to hold another yard sale, Mom, I am now available to draw this emoji all over your driveway. 😁

When you run out of yellow…
You obviously choose an emoji in the color you have the least of. 🤦♀️ Why I chose to do a red emoji is beyond me, but here we are! Using up all the red!
I struggle with symmetrical hearts. I like to draw mine all crooked and wonky and the opposite of how heart emojis look. 😂 I decided to go with the ever-popular b**b technique (kidding, I just made this up) to get this one looking good. Draw b**bs. Connect into heart. Easy peasy. Would recommend.
This one turned out being super fun. Yay!
And this is the point where the local people are wondering how far in advance I have drawn and recorded these emojis, because the weather isn’t looking particularly happy out there today. I guess we’ll just have to see…
