It sounds cliche, but "nobody's perfect". The fact that so many people say it means there must be some truth to it.⁣⁣⁣⁣

To seek perfection is a wasted effort, in most cases.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
For the engineers and doctors out there, strive for perfection. Our lives literally depend on it 😁
⁣⁣⁣⁣
But for the rest of us, we have a limited amount of energy and mental focus. Everything we do is tapping away at it.
⁣⁣
The sense of “perfection” leaves no room for error. But without error or a sense of failure, the most valuable lessons won't stick.⁣⁣⁣⁣

Getting better at our process of discovery, in life and work, gives us the best opportunity to grow.⁣⁣⁣

Are companies obligated to speak on social, global, or political issues?

As people, we care about a few things. Family, faith, and funds are usually where it starts.

But as business owners, funds become almighty. We forget why we started our business or even worse, we never really thought about why we started our business.

Then something happens. An event shakes a community to its core and there are people on both sides.

We are left wondering where our business should stand. Should we say something? What do we say?

In the past few years companies have increasingly felt the pressure to take a stance on political and social issues.

To help your company make this decision, start by asking yourself these questions:

1️⃣ Does the issue and brand align?
2️⃣ Can you make an impact?
3️⃣ Are you prepared to lose support?

Not every issue requires your response. Sometimes making room for organizations that are better equipped to make an impact is best.

But use these questions to decide if you are the right one to speak. In Part 2 we’ll explore how brands can actively engage once they’ve decided on an issue to focus their attention.
