What a joy divine! 🎉🔥✏️👩🏾‍💻

Thanking God that I've completed the course work and will walk across the stage to receive my Master of Divinity degree on May 11th.

In 2019, I had the desire to further my theological studies. Yes, I'm licensed and ordained but really wanted to study the Word so I set a goal to pursue my Master of Divinity degree at VUU.

I'm extremely thankful to my Soror First Lady Kimberly McKissick who shared her journey of being a student at VUU. This was my first introduction to the program. I applied and was accepted but couldn't attend because of my responsibilities for taking care of my parents. I didn't realize they didn't have a full online option at that time.

After losing my dad in June 2020 and my mom in December 2021, I wasn't sure what I would do with myself. I was grieving and feeling very lost in this new season. However, the week of my birthday in January 2022, I was talking to Danielle Murphy. I didn't feel like celebrating but she was encouraging me to. She then told me that she and Bishop were starting Virginia Union University Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology and I should join them. This conversation brought back my desire to go to VUU and the rest is history. This turned out to be the best birthday gift I could have given myself.

A couple of weeks ago, a few of us had a conversation with the Dean John Guns, and he asked our thoughts about our student journey. He often encouraged us to "embrace the challenge and enjoy the journey," so I shared that my journey here at VUU was life transforming and life saving. Writing papers after being out of school for the past 30 years was no easy task. Lol! But, the family of friends/colleagues I gained was life saving as I navigated my grief and comfort level of being a student at age 56. As you often see on social media, check on your strong friends. They go through as well.

Thank you Dean John Guns and the professors for my experience. I am forever grateful for the impartations and sacrifices you've made. It is my prayer that God continues to bless Virginia Union University Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology and each and every one of you.

I'm looking forward to what's next!
