Stray Outside the Lines Saturday with the Atlanta Contemporary Music Collective as the new music ensemble performs two works that "explore the space outside of the traditional rhythmic grid" at 7:30 p.m. at Freeside Atlanta in Hapeville.
Orynn Murphy's 'Line It Up (or Die Trying)' is a commissioned world premiere. 'Wired' is a new work by Atlanta-based composer Jordan Benator.
Also on the program is Julius Eastman's 'Gay Guerilla,' a 1979 work by one of the most important composers of the 1970s and '80s New York avant-garde. As a pianist, conductor, vocalist and composer, Eastman collaborated with luminaries such as Arthur Russell, Pierre Boulez, Meredith Monk and Peter Maxwell Davies. His tragic life story sometimes dims the brilliantly provocative nature of his art. -- Doug DeLoach

Any discussion about the Atlanta jazz scene must, at some point, include hometown hero Kebbi Williams. The Grammy-winning saxophonist, who also happens to be one of the baddest improvisors and bandleaders on the planet, steps into the spotlight Wednesday at Eddie's Attic with a program titled “Futures.”
That Grammy on Williams’ shelf comes from being an original member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band whose 2012 release, ‘Revalator,’ won for Best Blues Album.
In 2010, in response to the absence of music education in schools and limited arts programming in his West End neighborhood, Williams founded the non-profit group, Music In The Park (MITP) Atlanta. To date, MITP has supported nearly 6000 students, engaged more than 500 professional musicians and presented live music to tens of thousands of folks.
Coming off a scorching performance by his band, The Wolfpack, at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, look for Williams to bring the same fire and swing to the gig in Decatur. – Doug DeLoach
