Bookish Atlanta

As schools wind down for the summer, this is a reminder that Bookish maintains a Mutual Aid Pantry at the bookshop. Resources are available to the community any weekday that we’re open, and there’s no registration process.💯

The idea? Individuals and families who are otherwise financially stable often find themselves coming up short when all is said and done. Maybe the gig work has been a bit thin. Or you needed to take a couple of weeks off. Or the corporation restructured and eliminated your position. 🫠

That’s where the pantry comes in. It’s an easily accessible, no judgment spot for needed personal care and household essentials, plus simple medicines and harm reduction supplies. The kind of basics that aren’t covered by an EBT card. The “odds and ends” that nag at the back of the brain as heads hit pillows in working class homes many nights. 😣

This effort launched in September of 2025 ahead of the government shutdown, and your support has kept it going strong for nine months. It’s shopped by locals who have been referred by schools, agencies, and neighbors. It’s often patronized by folks who have historically shopped at Bookish though funds are too tight for books right now. Other times, people come to the bookshop for the Mutual Aid Pantry without ever having been to visit before. It’s all good, and we meet needs where we can. 🤝

If you have those supplies kicking around unused (or the ability to throw a few in your grocery cart this week on a 2-for-1 special), then we’d be thrilled to receive them and make sure they get into needed hands. 💗

If you need anything we stock, we hope you’ll come by Tuesday through Friday between 12-6pm. Mention that you’re here for the pantry, and a Bookish crew member will supply a bag and a few minutes for you to shop in privacy. Thanks for being our neighbors!

GEORGIANS: Do you know that has called a special legislative session to redraw our voting maps just like they did a few weeks ago in Tennessee? The aim is to dilute voting power and disenfranchise voters by gerrymandering state voting maps into oblivion. 💥

It’s going to take a massive effort to push back, but we believe Georgia is ready for this fight. We believe that good people across this state will # flood the phone lines, the inboxes, and the streets to make our voices heard. Legislators are being called into session beginning June 17, and NOW is the time to apply pressure. Tell your elected reps to reject racist voter maps and protect voting power. 📢
