John Glenn refused to fly until SHE checked the math. 🚀 Katherine Johnson graduated summa cm laude from West Virginia State at just 18 years old, with degrees in mathematics and French. At NASA, she hand-calculated the trajectory for America's first human spaceflight, and when the new electronic computers spit out numbers for John Glenn's 1962 orbit, he told engineers: "Get the girl to check the numbers. If she says they're good, I'm ready to go." She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015, and the world finally learned her name through Hidden Figures, before her death in 2020.
An HBCU classroom in West Virginia put America in orbit. Let that sink in. They hid the figures. We won't ever forget them.
