Most people know that Astrology is an ancient tradition, but how many of you know the story of how its practice has shifted and changed over time? What about the fact that there are a variety of different types of astrological practices outside of just natal? Currently, I am enrolled in Chris Brennan’s Hellenistic Astrology course in order to learn as much as I can about astrology and the Hellenistic tradition, and the first section of his course just happens to be on Astrological History. After 164 pages in his textbook and a 4 hour long lecture later, I know a lot more about the subject, however, as a student in college I realized early on no matter how much time and attention I put into class I never really know a thing until I write about it. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself by assigning my own astrology homework in an attempt to solidify as much of the subject in my mind as I can and hopefully inspire you to learn with me!
This post covers the origin and transmission of western astrology over time. We are going to discuss the way different cultures added, changed, renewed, and renovated astrological ideas, and take some time to explore why only looking at astrology from the modern perspective might cause us to miss enlightening insights offered to us by the stars and the sages.
Special thanks to Chris for being such a great teacher and for giving me permission to publish this post ❤️
