Last post I shared Barbie’s art- HeART’s first artist before we were officially HeART-and I introduced our first scholarship fund in her honor. Here’s another pic of her art. Today I want to share why I created the scholarship and why I created HeART as a non profit organization. What started as a side job offering art assistance to those who needed it grew into something I enjoyed immensely, and did not want to give up as I moved my career back to pursuing my own art and design work. I wanted to keep doing it because I loved it, not because it was my job. When the art started to sell I wanted a way to give most of the profits back, since I was already paid for the hours helping to create the art and I strongly feel the art is not mine to make a commission off of -I help artists create the art, I don’t create it- my own art is very different from HeART artists! I wanted to circulate profits back into the community and the business. Also, I attended the CHOA CP convention. I was shocked by the enormous cost of therapy and all the related expenses of having a special needs child. It was there that I knew the last thing I wanted to do was increase the cost of living for these families! For these reasons, incorporating HeART as a non profit allowed me to best accomplish my goals of creating art for the joy of it, and provide affordable and accessible services. Back to Barbie and the scholarship fund- the method and model I use to deliver art is based on our experience creating art together. The moment I incorporated HeART as a non profit, I knew I wanted a scholarship fund in her honor to offset the cost of our services. Fundraising has been a big challenge for me. It is out of my experience and comfort zone, and I have half heartedly tried many things. I always felt that over time I would find my way IF I could combine the things that I love doing into a fundraising effort. I’m a fashion designer/artist and have always wanted to work this into my fundraising plan somehow. I’m excited to tell you what I have come up with! Next post! Keep in touch ❤️ Lauren
