Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026, becoming the first woman (and first woman of color) to win Best Cinematography in 98 years. Before this win, only four women had ever been nominated in the category’s history: Rachel Morrison(Mudbound, 2018), Ari Wegner (The Power of the Dog, 2021), Mandy Walker (Elvis, 2022), and Durald Arkapaw herself.
