Yesterday, FERC issued Order No. 1977. This draft rule creates high-priority transmission corridors as well as details Federal jurisdiction as a backstop to siting concerns. This is all in addition to guidance around engagement with affected communities and environmental concerns.

It has long been clear that more and better coordinated transmission facilities have been needed to connect the rapid growth in renewable projects required to meet the growing clean electricity demand in this country. Today, FERC has issued Order No. 1920 which aims to improve grid efficiency. Included in the guidance are long-term transmission planning requirements, key criteria to evaluate project selection, and cost allocation guidance.
