My husband woke up this morning with this hymn running through his mind. It was written by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe, and became a battle tune played as the soldiers went out to fight for slavery to end during the civil war. Historians write that 650,000-850,000 men died for during the civil war-that’s including both sides. But think about how many died to fight for the cause of freedom. For the belief that all are created equal before God. This hymn was penned as if God was among them, as part of the army of freedom and justice-and an end to slavery. That is our true history. And the heart of America won. That doesn’t mean we don’t have work to do. I pray we can look through all the bu****it flying around right now and pursue hearts. Pursue reconciliation and reformation. We gotta fight for EACH OTHER. In unity, we will find the glory. And God in our midst.
There’s a lot of lies, deceit and evil intent for our country at work right now. We must move in the opposite spirit. We must stand for truth as if our lives and our children’s lives depended upon it. Because they do. Let your justice roll like a river, God. Open our eyes and ears to perceive and receive truth. And then to MOVE on it. Happy Freedom Day. I don’t believe God is finished with his beloved America 🇺🇸
