The southern portion of the Soulard neighborhood has a very different landscape than the northern half of the neighborhood. Large homes and mansions are situated high up on a hill overlooking the river, and many of the homes and mansions were owned by beer barons. One of the most decorative ones was built for Louis Obert in 1886 on Twelfth Street, which was essentially a Beer Baron’s Row in St. Louis.
Learn more about Soulard’s beer barons on March 15th, with architectural historian Nathan Jackson, on a walk through the neighborhood, starting at Pontiac Square Park, which was the former site of a brewery itself. More information regarding the walk is available in the comments below.
