L.R. Knost: We’re not just living our lives. We’re teaching our children and our children’s children how to live theirs.

We’re not just walking through this world. We’re leaving footprints in the sands of tomorrow.

We are the fossils of the future.

What will time reveal in our bones?

What will archeologists dig up in our ruins?

What will anthropologists discover in the scraps of newspapers and fragments of computer files left as records of a time long past?

Will our great-great-great grandchildren shudder in horror at the inhumanity of our time?

Or will they smile as they carefully open a dusty old book passed down from generation to generation and find a yellowed note between its pages “Let me know if you need anything, neighbor”?

What will the future see when it looks back on this time, my friends?

Our actions, our inactions, our voices raised or silent, create the world we will leave our children and our children’s children.

We’re writing our stories right now, in our homes, our communities, our nations, our world.

Let’s make something beautiful.
