Color wheel + unit circle = 💜
05/27/2026
I have had it in my head for a while that I wanted to make a color wheel unit circle. Yesterday I was working on our new space (!!!) and decided to take a break from the unpacking, painting, building, and organizing. I just wanted one thing to be DONE. So I decided to work on this and actually hang it on the wall.
Math and art together in one giant circle. I love it. Let me know what you think in the comments!
What do YOU want to know about the Timebridge microschool? There’s so much to share, I’m not sure where to start.
Right now, we only have one Frequently Asked Question and it’s this:
❓Are you opening a high school?
Answer: YES! It’s a homeschool hybrid model for 8th-11th grades.
What’s next?
I wanted something interactive for my Biology student to model meiosis. Luckily for me, the fidgets I had on hand worked perfectly. (The spindle fibers were my favorite.) Throw in some borrowed pipe cleaners from my charming office mate at Recess and Play, and voila! A last minute model of meiosis. Physically moving the objects as they progressed through meiosis helped build conceptual understanding.

That feeling when you go to the Teacher Reuse store and find a chalkboard from the first school you opened. You know it’s finding a prominent spot in the new microschool! It still has my writing on it from 7 years ago.

In retrospect, this wasn’t the best idea I ever had for a test review game. It worked, though! The reward was the problem: For each correct answer, the high schooler was allowed to give service dog Rooster 🐕🦺 a treat. (They’re besties.) It worked too well. A great score in the game translated into a great score on the test. The only downside is that Rooster put on about ten pounds.
“That doesn’t change just because they get older. If they don’t see the point of what they’re learning, or it’s taught in a way that doesn’t land with them, they check out. They don’t see the point, so they disconnect.
You can give students all the content you want. That doesn’t mean they’ll care.
That’s what happens when testing becomes more important than learning. Facts aren’t the issue. Kids have more access to information than ever.
But when everything is about scores, pacing, and getting through material, students stop seeing the point. And when they don’t see the point, they disconnect.”

It’s hard to explain why I believe we need an alternative to the traditional education model without pointing out what I believe is not working in education. When fewer than 1/3 of the students can pass the state-required tests, it’s not working. When those students are not given a chance to master the material they missed, it’s not working. [That number is for overall performance. Breaking it down by subgroups, the story is much worse.]
I hesitated to post this video because it might rub some people the wrong way. But change doesn’t happen by avoiding topics that rub people the wrong way. If this video doesn’t sit right with you, let’s talk! I’d love to discuss why we see things differently.
