Athens Fire Department Lt. Mark Oliver was deployed to Big Springs with a member of the Lufkin Fire Department Saturday where they are staging because of an elevated fire danger. They are in a TIFMAS strike team consisting of units from the Nacogdoches, Texarkana, Lufkin, and Paris Fire Departments. Lt. Oliver is pictured here with other members of the strike team.

The TIFMAS program is coordinated by the Texas A&M Forest Service and is a framework through which fire and rescue agencies work together to provide support for state and national incidents as diverse as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and wildfires.

Friday, Oct. 24, is Pink Out Day in Athens. Wear your pink shirts to work and to the Athens football game.

The Athens Professional Firefighters Association is selling pink t-shirts as part of its annual cancer fundraiser. Each shirt costs $20 and is available in sizes small to 4XL. Proceeds from the sales will be distributed to benefit cancer victims in Henderson County (49%) and local firefighters battling cancer (51%).

Shirts can be purchased at the Central Fire Station from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as at Island Tans.

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women in the United States, with a lifetime risk of approximately 13%. This statistic indicates that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.

Pink Shirts are available at Central Station from 8am-5pm daily!
Also will be available at Island Tans during their business hours!
