Climate Central is the new home of a database tracking "billion-dollar disasters."

In its first update at the new site, the database shows that the first six months of 2025 have been the most expensive first six months of any year since 1980.

Tropical Storm Melissa, the 13th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, has formed in the Caribbean.

It is projected to be a hurricane as it gets closer to Jamaica and Hispaniola later this week.
