MCC Last Frontier
Words from the last song that MCC LF will sing today from its last gathered service. We hope you can join us.
Pastor Denise
We would be one as now we join in singing
our hymn of love, to pledge ourselves anew
to that high cause of greater understanding
of who we are, and what in us is true.
We would be one in living for each other
to show to all a new community.
There is no easy way to have a conversation like this. As the pastor of MCC Last Frontier, the responsibility is mine for sharing with you that the active ministry of MCCLF will cease with the worship service of Jan. 26, 2020. Yes, this was a difficult decision for me and the MCCLF core group but a necessary one. The consensus has been in numerous conversations that MCCLF has been an emerging ministry unable to completely break out of its eggshell.
This does not mean that some positive, worthwhile sharing of love has gone unnoticed. The movement of God’s Spirit and the dedication of a few people has had a definite impact.
And it does not mean that Aimee and I are either leaving Alaska or that I am leaving either ministry or the MCC. First, Alaska is our home. And MCC has been crucial to my own spiritual development and recovery journey. I am re-focusing ministry efforts to a different stage of writing and multi-media projects which can make better use of my spiritual gifts, education and experience. In some important ways I have been re-focusing on what “vocation” looks like and I will continue to seek out fresh and innovative ways to share God’s hope and love amidst the LGBTQ+ people in our lives.
I and the core group of MCCLF wish to thank those who have engaged with us in prayerful support, especially the communities of First Coast MCC in St. Augustine, FL and Emerald City MCC in Seattle. Also our thanks to those supportive faith communities of Anchorage, AK, such as First Congregational Church and their support of our own worship services and my ordination and Immanuel Presbyterian Church for sharing their worship space.
It is a new year and a new season and I am certain that God has not finished yet with any of us.
Blessings and peace,
Pastor Denise Sudbeck
