Terrapin Hedgehogs

Happy Groundhog Day everyone! Did you know that "Over time, European folklore linked Candlemas weather to the length of winter. If the day was "fair and bright," winter would have "another flight".
Germany: Germans added an animal to the superstition, traditionally watching a badger or hedgehog to see if it saw its shadow.
So HEDGEHOGS were some of the original weather predictors, although these were not the same hedgehogs that we have here in the US as pets. There are at least 15 different species of hedgehogs across Europe/ Asia/ Russia and some of them hibernate for the winter. The species that was most likely used is the European hedgehog, which is currently a protected species that is illegal to keep as pets.
When asked for comment, our Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs gave us nasty looks and went back to sleep. One of them could be clearly heard snuffling "GO ASK SIRI!"
