FIRE-SKY IRIDESCENCE OVER THE TIDEFLATS

That electric green ribbon cutting through molten orange clouds is the kind of color your eyes don’t forget.
A whole ceiling of cirrus gets sculpted into waves… then the sunset lights every ridge .
Clean horizon, dark rocks, and a mirror-slick shoreline to finish the shot.

What you’re seeing is cloud iridescence layered on top of a deep sunset. The intense orange comes from Rayleigh scattering when the Sun is low—shorter blue light gets scattered out, leaving warm reds and golds. The green/teal band happens when sunlight interacts with a thin, uniform patch of tiny droplets or ice crystals, causing diffraction that separates light into vivid color zones. The “swirled” texture is often shaped by wind shear and gravity waves high in the atmosphere, stretching the cloud deck into those dramatic, flowing streaks.
