We also distribute CSFP boxes for Seniors and support over 4000 Akron students with weekend food bags. The Good Samaritan Hunger Center (GSHC) was the vision of Sister Jordan Haddad, a Dominican Sister of Peace who died in 2006. Sister Jordan was fierce in her fight to garner love and respect for the poor. She founded the GSHC in 1982 with goal that “one day no man, woman or child would go hungry”

🌟🤝 New Series Launch: Agency Partner Spotlight

We’re excited to introduce a new ongoing series from Food Rescue US – Akron — our Agency Partner Spotlight — where we highlight the incredible organizations that receive rescued food and turn it into real support for our community.

These partners are on the front lines every day — serving families, seniors, and individuals across our community with compassion and dignity. Through these spotlights, we’ll share their missions, impact, and the important role they play in turning rescued food into nourishment and hope.

First up: Good Samaritan Hunger Center 💚

Stay tuned as we continue to recognize the agencies that make food rescue work where it matters most.
