Kappa Kappa Psi - Sigma Chapter

As we celebrate the Month of Musicianship, and look specifically at “Tone” this week, we are celebrating an American composer who has truly set the tone for many other composers and musicians throughout the years. John Philip Sousa was born on November 6, 1854 in Washington, D.C. Some of his best marches include “Stars and Stripes Forever”, “Semper Fidelis”, and “The Washington Post”. In 1922, the National Chapter granted him honorary membership into the Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. “Brothers, I have received medals and honors from every civilized country, but I feel this honor above all, due to the fact that this was given me by a group of university bandsmen who are furthering the great work that I have dedicated my whole life to.” Happy birthday John Philip Sousa!
