‎ Maj. Gen. Deus Sande, the commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Armoured Division based at Kasijjagirwa Barracks in Masaka District, has been confirmed dead.
‎
‎Maj. Gen. Sande had been a prominent figure in Uganda’s security apparatus, particularly in operations linked to political unrest and opposition activities.
‎
‎Human rights groups and opposition figures have previously accused him of involvement in the arrest and alleged abduction of opposition politicians and their supporters. Among the cases frequently cited is the arrest of the late Kawempe North MP, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, following his release on bail in Masaka.

UPDATE: Uganda Airlines is preparing to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer to replace Jennifer Bamuturaki, who has served in the position since July 2022, according to internal communication circulated within the national carrier.

‎In an internal email addressed to staff, Bamuturaki indicated that the airline’s board will soon advertise the CEO position and encouraged qualified employees to prepare their academic and professional documents in readiness to apply once the vacancy is formally announced.
‎
‎The communication further stated that the job description and application form would be published on the airline’s official website once the recruitment process is launched.
‎
‎Bamuturaki was appointed CEO in July 2022 and has overseen the airline’s operations during a period marked by route expansion and operational restructuring.

UPDATE: The family of the late Hajj Ali Lutaaya has appointed Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and his law firm, Lukwago & Co. Advocates, to represent Honourable Muwanga Kivumbi in his ongoing criminal case.

In a formal letter dated January 28, 2026, the family confirmed that Lukwago had been selected as legal counsel to handle the matter involving the Butambala County MP, who is currently detained at Kitalya Prison.
