: Earlier today, the British High Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney, visited the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Her visit was in preparation for the "Name and Save a Rhino" ceremony, scheduled for September 22, 2025.
During her visit, Chesney participated in a rhino tracking session and described the experience as "rare and moving". She praised Uganda's "remarkable conservation efforts" that have brought the rhino population to 48 individuals after they had previously been extinct in the country.
The upcoming ceremony is part of a fundraising campaign aiming to raise $11 million to support Uganda's Rhino Conservation Strategy. The funds will support plans to translocate 20 rhinos from Ziwa to the Ajai Wildlife Reserve. The initiative will allow individuals and institutions to bid for the rights to name 17 rhino calves, blending conservation with tourism.
