production. For their protection, people were kept in internally displaced peoples’ camps (IDPs) where such services as health and education were limited. The end result of these events was that economic development in Kitgum district (and in Northern Uganda) lagged behind as the land lay to waste during the insurgency. Since 2006, populations began to return from the IDPs to their original land holdings. Government, with the support of international development partners has since began to provide basic services and generally helping communities revive economic activities. However, the development challenge is immense and requires sustained efforts from all parties. There for In 2010 community members in Orom sub County in Kitgum district came together and recognized that the only way they can recover and seekdevelopment is to empower the rural community members with information and recourses they need to build up theircommunities,which they had no access to in the past 25 years.Thus NURDI was born,today NURDI is a progressive organization that works closely with the communities and at NURDI we continue to chase the dream of “sustained rural livelihood”.
